What does solder smell like
Messages: 5, Location: Front Range, Colorado. I like the smell but try to avoid breathing the fumes. A few hours of exposure really messes me up. But I'm overly sensitive to a lot of chemicals. I keep a small fan running to blow the whiffs away from my face. JohnMac , Jul 12, Messages: 1, Location: The Netherlands.
I did like the smell of it untill i bought some new solder, this has some sort of crystal in it, store guy said its better for soldering but it smells awfull. Alienz , Jul 12, Messages: 5, Location: RIP What's there to like? Read the caution, you won't like what you read.

ConradH , Jul 12, I stopped into the Radio Shack that is closing in my neighborhood and bought 2. Bring on the Dain Bramage!!! Yep, if you want "real" solder with lead in it, get it SOON. There is some kind of RoHS conformance blah blah blah deadline July 1. I don't know what that means exactly or what RoHS stands for. Except there is a major push for electronics going lead-free. I didn't know silver solder was harder to use than the older stuff, that must explain all my crappy soldering.
Actual silver solder is brazing alloy, because it takes much more heat, like to f. It is not a soft solder. But, it IS being used as an alloy with tin and antimony and such for low-temp soft solders.
But it's a bitch to work with. Wow, so lead poisoning really does make you go crazy and start stockpiling things?
That's morbidly hilarious. Lead piping is often cited as part of the blame for crazy behaviors in the last of the Roman Empire. I love the smell of burning solder in the morning. Start new topic. I suspect that "rosin" was once the natural product with all its aromatic impurities, but has become more refined over the years, to suit particular jobs.
Radio smell? What about selling it on ebay, in sealed cans? Central PA while I surfed. The perfume from the 80 and other tubes was heavenly. I turned it around to take in several hearty lungfuls as I switched it off to go to bed.
I worked in a board-stuffing shop for almost 2 years and found that rosin-core solder caused no issues for me. The no-rinse flux, however, caused major issues after just a couple of minutes.
Keep the visual path unobscured by the fumes;. Keep the VOCs away from your face. It works. Barely notice the fan but it does a good job keeping clean air at my face. In addition to using a fume extractor, I actually trained myself to breath out while soldering. In my defense, I did add a pile of extra seasoning to the meat before the sauce went in and that footage was cut for time, although I DID still use store sauce…. Actually, did anyone else notice that in the last year, canned pasta sauces have gone super bland, and maybe a bit more watery.
Have to stick in a bunch of stuff to bring them near to decent. Same reason smoke from a camp fire finds your face even if wind is blowing the other way. Smoke is just being a-hole. Just like magnets. Some years ago, a Sea Captain by the name of Cole found himself yearning for one of the ports of his youth, a scrubby fishing port it was back in the day down east.
